It is the Labor Day long weekend. We drove to northern CA for a 2-day trip. We visited Lake Shasta Caverns, Sundial Bridge, and City of 10,000 Buddhas. It is a natural and relaxed trip.

The Lake Shasta Caverns are a network of caves located near the McCloud arm of Shasta Lake in California. The Caverns are dated at least 200 million years, and were formed by flowing water. Over the years this water drained leaving the caverns seen today. The caves are made entirely of limestone, and feature every type of possible formation, including stalactites, stalagmites, soda straws, columns, and flowstone. Comparing to Kartchner Caverns State Park at Arizona, Lake Shasta Caverns is not so attractive to me. However, it is still a good experience as the visitors are allowed to take pictures at this place.

The Sundial Bridge at Turtle Bay crosses the Sacramento River in the heart of Redding, California. It was designed by Santiago Calatrava and completed in 2004 at a cost of US$23,500,000. The steel, glass, and granite span evokes a sense of weightlessness and the translucent, non-skid decking provides for spectacular viewing at night.

The City of Ten Thousand Buddhas (Chinese: 萬佛聖城) is an international Buddhist community and monastery founded by the Venerable Master Hsuan Hua, an important figure in Western Buddhism. It is one of the first Chinese Zen Buddhist temples in the United States, and one of the largest Buddhist communities in the Western Hemisphere. There are a lot of peacocks walking on the street. They are elegant and not afraid of people. We also had a delicious vegetarian lunch at Jyun Kang Vegetarian Restaurant (Chinese: 君康真素齋). It is really a peaceful place.
