2008冬遊Tucson -- 第三站Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum－★Discover the Touching Moment★

今天是12/21/2008，好開心，終於要前往聞名已久的Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum了！

Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum位於Tucson的西南方，距離我家車程約40分鐘，在往西南行的路上，沿途的景觀由大馬路漸漸轉變成偏僻的鄉間小路，不知道的人還以為是不是迷路了？尤其是最後車行進入了一片佈滿仙人掌的山谷中，瀰漫著一股荒野的、大自然的氣息。

“The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is a world-renowned zoo, natural history museum and botanical garden, all in one place!” 真是一點也沒錯，走進了Desert Museum，被一片廣闊的沙漠景觀及Tucson熟悉的藍天圍繞著，慶幸自己沒有在Tucson最炎熱的5至9月來拜訪，不然鐵定脫水兼中暑。

我們很幸運的趕上了導覽，一位年過50但卻非常時髦的短髮白人太太幫我們做約一小時的解說，同行的還有遠從加拿大來的朋友，大家都專心的傾聽著，幻想自己化身為沙漠中的一個生物，如何在乾枯的沙漠中求生？

Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum的mission真的很吸引我：” The mission of the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is to inspire people to live in harmony with the natural world by fostering love, appreciation, and understanding of the Sonoran Desert.” 在鋼筋水泥的都市叢林裡求生存，人們常常遺忘了最初最美好的大自然，忘了多留意身旁的一隻蝴蝶、一朵花、一棵樹、及一座山，到了Tucson後，雖然很想念老家附近的大安森林公園，但Tucson廣闊的藍天、隨處可見的Saguaro（巨型仙人掌）、各式的人種（白的or紅的or黑的or黃的）、及U of A中每到春天就花粉遍佈令我過敏的一排不知名行道樹，也讓我體驗到另一種大自然型態，讓我更懂得尊重生命與關懷社會。

p.s. 一般英漢字典總是有解釋不完全甚或不正確的缺點，所以我還是喜歡用英英字典，Merriam-Webster就是我老公強力推薦的一部英英字典，他靠這部極具公信力的字典來輔助記憶GRE的單字，Merriam-Webster還有online version，很方便喔！

Saguaro：一種巨型仙人掌

Pronunciation: \sə-ˈwär-ə, -ˈgwär-, -ō\（西班牙文）
A tall columnar usually sparsely-branched cactus (Carnegiea gigantea) of dry areas of the southwestern United States and Mexico that bears white flowers and a scaly reddish edible fruit and that may attain a height of up to 50 feet (16 meters) — called also giant cactus
解說人員說，Saguaro壽命可達200多年，每75年就會長出一隻手臂喔！

後面一根根矗立的就是Tucson隨處可見的Saguaro

Jojoba：就是很多保養品中常添加的「荷荷巴」

Cholla：一種有細刺的仙人掌

Pronunciation: \ˈchȯi-yə\（西班牙文）
Any of numerous shrubby opuntias（仙人掌屬植物） chiefly of the southwestern United States and Mexico that have needlelike spines partly enclosed in a papery sheath and cylindrical joints — called also cholla cactus.
